REGISTRATION for session C STARTS OCTOBER 23rd at 8:00pm
All homeschool classes take beginner and experienced sewers through skill appropriate projects with complete creative freedom.
Brand new students will learn an introduction to using a sewing machine in a safe and professional manner. Students will learn to thread their own sewing machine with confidence, seam allowances and new sewing terminology. Students will be given lots of opportunity to practice and improve their accuracy and learn to use some of the basic features of their sewing machine as they complete fun beginner projects like stuffies, scrunchies and a pin cushion.
Intermediate and advanced students will be offered projects to choose from and will work at their own pace. Past projects have included accessories, skirts, shorts and pj shorts, animal hats, sweatshirts and cardigans, housecoats and dresses.
Advanced students will pick challenging projects that grow their skills and work towards their personal sewing goals. Students may be building a business, developing university applications and or bringing their advanced design ideas to life. Advanced students will need to provide their own patterns and fabric
In addition to sewing, each session will have a unique topic that builds on the students understanding of the fashion industry. Past topics have included fabric content, fashion illustration, local and global fashion brands and the garment industries effect on the environment.
Students will be encouraged to expand their 2D and 3D design skills through design challenges and be given a fashion sketchbook to record and develop their ideas and inspiration.
All beginner and intermediate materials included, please bring a sewing machine and sewing kit (including fabric and paper scissors, a stitch ripper, fabric chalk and measuring tape). If you don't have a sewing machine, please make arrangements with the studio when registering.
**Students who have completed at least 5 hours of in studio sewing and or are comfortable threading their machine and using the basic features of their machine may do this course over Zoom. Please contact the studio if you are interested in participating over Zoom but do not meet this requirement and we will help coordinate a private or semi-private class. Students who wish to do this class over Zoom will need a sewing machine at home and sewing kit (including fabric scissors and paper scissors, a ruler, a seam ripper, measuring tape and fabric chalk, 2-3 bobbins, a zipper foot, an invisible zipper foot and at least 1 colour of thread).
